New...new...new...new... Canyoning Tours in North Greece

In Greece the season begins in early spring. We recently undertook an expedition there and after scouting the whole area we finalized a special rafting/outdoor package and included it into our program for 2008.

Canyoning in Greece: One of the 21 abseil sections

 Our destination is the North West of Greece around the city of Ioannina, with the rivers Arahtos and Aoos offering light-middle white-water over a 20 km section of river. In Spring the snow melt from the well known ski region of the Greek Alps creates high water levels which runs through unspoiled landscape. The only take-out once underway through the Arahtos gorge are approximately halfway through the tour where we stop for lunch and 11 km further down river at the end of the tour. Between the start and finish are no trails, no roads and no one to cross our path! This is the reason why there are so many untouched Canyons !

We work together with the local Outdoor company, Alpinezone were we use their base and infrastructure. The tours are exclusively led by our own guides and the use of our own equipment. (minimum number of participants 6 persons per Raft and Canyoning group)! Additional local Greek Guides support the tours.
Thursday: Departure day
  • Departure from Munich/Stuttgart/Frankfurt or Berlin in the late afternoon with Olympic Airways.
  • Arrival in Athens (flying time 2 hours) connecting flight to Ioannina. Arrival late evening.
  • Check-in to accommodation followed by a traditional Greek greetings dinner.
Friday: Canyoning Day 1
  • Breakfast served until 10 o'clock.
  • Depart North with the minibuses to the famous rock formation Timfi. Transfer to the Canyoning start. Duration approx. 30-40 minutes.
  • Preparation for the tour and safety briefing.
  • 5-6 hour Canyoning tour with 21 abseil sections. Also suitably for beginners!
  • Lunch in the neighboring mountain village.
  • Return journey/transfer to our accommodation. Duration approx. 45 minutes.
  • Traditional Greek evening meal, then a chance to visit the bars and experience the night life in town...
Saturday: Canyoning Day 2
  • Breakfast served until 10 o'clock.
  • Depart North with the minibuses to the famous rock formation Timfi.
  • Preparation for the tour and safety briefing.
  • 4-5 hour Canyoning tour with difficult abseil sections.
  • Lunch in the neighboring mountain village.
  • Return journey/transfer to our accommodation. Duration approx. 45 minutes.
  • Traditional Greek evening meal, then a chance again to visit the bars in Ionainna.
Sunday: Culture Day
  • Breakfast served until 9 o'clock.
  • Visit the world-famous stalactite caverns (length 1000 meters) in the neighboring village of Ioanina.
  • Departure to Athens around lunch time.
  • A flying visit to the local beach whilst waiting for the connecting flight (min. 4 hours)
  • Extension program in Greece, Sun Sand and S.... Information on request.
  • Return flight to Germany late afternoon. Arrival in Munich in the evening.
