World Rafting Championships 2001 in West Virgina/USA @ New and Gauley River

In September 2001 we had big problems after 9/11 coming into the US at all. Our team flight was booked for the 14th, actually we made it by the 19th from Munich. Two days of training getting known to the rivers had to be enough. 22nd of September was first competition day in which we finished with the silver medal (parallel sprint). Next day in the slalom event we used our long term slalom experience - world champion!! After a days break there was the long distance downriver race at the River Gauley, in which we scored high again. Second place after the Czech team (the Czechs were in the states before 9/11 and therefore knew the river best) was the win of the overall title. At price giving and party after we celebrated this title for the first time with Governor Bob Wise of West Virginia/USA.
