Wild Water Grading:

There is altogether six different gradients in wild water, written in roman figures I to VI. A slow moving river without any rocks and waves, with a plain surface, is graded I. Grade VI  means a river which is impossible to manoeuvre by the means of kayaking today. But many rivers regarded grade IV some 10 to 20 years ago nowadays are graded V because of improvement of kayaking and rafting material and wild water techniques.

Water Volume

The water volume of a river - measured in either cubik meter per second or cubik feet per second - is a precise measurement for a character of a river. The higher volume is flowing down, the higher and more powerful the waves, the faster the current and more dangerous the holes/stoppers.  The water level of a river can vary extreme due to season. For example the level of the River Oetz in the wintertime is around 3 cbm/sec. and in the hot summer month of July sometimes 300 cbm/sec. The water levels we supply in our data board are the minimum levels we need to raft this section without bounce at the rocks all the time and the maximum levels we can handle in safety.

Stopper/Hole

Fast flowing current of water hitting slower water or a rock formation on the bottom of the river. This creates a continuous braking wave like that on the shores of the sea, but instead of rolling onto the beach it remains in the same place in the river. Most stoppers are strong enough to hold or flip most Rafts or Kayaks.
